ABSTRAC

    The geographical position of the Indonesian archipelago who were at the meeting zone plates tekonik Eurasian , Indian - Australian , Pacific and the Philippines have led to many parts of Indonesia are highly vulnerable to earthquake centered both on land and on the sea floor potentially tsunami .Tsunami hazard can cause devastating effects to humans such as death , injury or loss of property . Tsunami hazard early warning system is an effort to reduce the risk of impact of tsunami hazard integrated directly in the tsunami hazard risk reduction program . However, the tsunami hazard risk reduction through the development of early warning systems can not be separated from elements of community readiness and supporting infrastructure . Readiness people exposed to tsunami hazard optimally very dibutukan . This is due mostly coastal areas and coastal islands in Indonesia are threatened by a tsunami hazard zone classified sebgai tsunami generated near the source or sources of potential tsunami is short , so it is often claimed that many in a short time . Victims of the tsunami could have been minimized if people's understanding of the tsunami disaster , evacuation routes and locations , as well as access to early warning sirens can be distributed evenly .Therefore, researchers interested in conducting a survey using purposive sampling and questionnaires rondom in Bantul coastal areas in order to determine the readiness of the community to the tsunami . results of the questionnaire in the community readiness index is calculated in a way : The correct answer ( b ) x weight ( c ) = readiness index ( d ) . d / 38 ( maximum readiness index ) x 100 % = ...... %Based on community preparedness against tsunamis index then classified to the level of preparedness of the community into three groups : Low : 0 % - 34 % Moderate : 34 % - 66 % High : 66 % - 100 % . The village is still a low level of readiness of the tsunami will be disseminated by the research team .Expected in this study is an understanding , preparedness , and public awareness in anticipation of tsunami hazard and can provide the proper reaction to the early warning so that the limited time to save himself the place safer .
